Stressed structure
Tendons are among the most heavily stressed structures in the sport horse. During training, endurance, show jumping, dressage or intense work they are subjected to repeated stress that generates heat, congestion and inflammation of the surrounding tissues.

Closed trauma
In the sport horse, accidental impacts against obstacles, fences, transport vehicles or other horses can occur. When the trauma does not cause skin lesions but affects the underlying tissues, oedema, inflammation and localised blood collections can develop.

When the clay pack is not enough on its own
In the presence of extensive haematomas, significant lameness, marked pain or a suspected tendon, ligament or fracture injury, a veterinary assessment is required. In these cases the clay pack complements, but does not replace, the veterinarian's instructions.
